Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds Kingdoms Explained

Kingdoms are the game's guild system.

Kingdoms of one kind or another are a recurring staple of the Ni No Kuni series. As a typical sword and sorcery setting, it’s pretty much a given that there has to be a central governing body operating out of a lavish fantasy city. However, all kingdoms in previous games were just part of the world. In Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds, they’re something that you can build for yourself and your friends.

Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds Kingdoms Explained

Kingdoms are, in the simplest terms, Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds’s guild system. After you finish a few of the main story quests, you’ll be able to do a sidequest aptly named “Kingdom.” Complete that quest, and you’ll get the ability to either join an existing Kingdom or start your own. If you create your own Kingdom, you’ll be able to customize a few aspects of its aesthetic, including its name, emblem, color scheme, and the design of your home city. After you get set up, you can invite other players to join you, provided they’re playing on the same server.

Besides being a place for players to gather, Kingdoms also get to participate in a handful of special game modes, including both PvE battles and inter-Kingdom conflicts. These game modes include:

  • Kingdom Defense: Monsters attack your Kingdom in waves, so players will need to team up and fight them off
  • Kingdom Invasion: Two Kingdoms go back and forth attacking and defending against each other with cannons and magical constructs
  • Relic Wars: Two Kingdoms battle it out on a gigantic map, with the goal being to take control of strategic control points

Whichever Kingdom stands at the pinnacle of all other Kingdoms on the server earns the right to become the server’s Capitol. The Kingdom that becomes the Capitol of the server actually gets to set certain policies that affect all of the server’s players. Don’t like it? Well, you’d better work hard to overthrow them!

Being in a Kingdom also gives you access to the Kingdom Shop, where you can spend special Kingdom Coins on limited-time stat buffs for you and your friends. Being in a Kingdom and participating in its activities are the only way to get Kingdom Coins and use the Kingdom Shop.

If you want to get the most out of your time with Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds, you’d do well to either join a Kingdom or establish your own. Hey, nothing makes you better at battling monsters than having a homeland to return to.
