Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is a mobile MMO set in the imaginative world of the acclaimed JRPG series. In the game, players can select from a variety of different classes with unique skillsets to do battle in this brave new world. Each of these character classes comes with a number of skills that can assist the player in rebuilding their ransacked kingdom.
In an effort to help new players decide which class to prioritize, we here at Gamer Journalist have put together this tier list and guide to each. It’s likely that if you normally play as a tank or healer in other games, you may decide to stick with what you’re familiar with, but if you’re interested in venturing from your comfort zone, this is the place to be.
In the spirit of transparency, the tier list portion of this piece will be entirely based on my opinion. You might disagree with my takes, especially if you prefer to play as a support class.
Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds Class Guide & Tier List
In Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, players can choose from five different classes: The Swordsman (DPS), The Witch (DPS), The Destroyer (Tank), The Rogue (Support), and The Engineer (Healer).
The Swordsman
The Swordsman is the “protagonist” type. He can deal quick attacks with a one-handed blade that can make enemies regret engaging with you in the first place. The Swordsman’s unique abilities include:
- Flash, which unleashes a series of quick attacks that slows down enemies by 20% for 3 seconds.
- Flying Slash, a swinging attack that deals damage and slows down enemies by 15% for 3 seconds.
- Spinning Swords, where the Swordsman spins around and forward, decimating enemies.
- Magical Sword Cut, which is the Swordsman’s Ultimate Ability. It manifests as a gigantic cut that deals massive damage against enemies.
The Swordsman has a series of passive abilities that help to boost the party, including:
- Defense Call, which allows normal attacks to increase party defense.
- Last Stand, which increases their attack while reducing damage.
- Fortress, which boosts defense and can stack up to six times.
- Death Seal, which allows normal attacks to increase attack, as well as inflict a stun every 30 seconds.
- Blind Attack, which increases damage against blind enemies.
I really like playing as DPS characters when I can. It’s always fun to inflict as much damage as I can as quickly as I can. It’s for that reason that I am putting The Swordsman in the “A” tier.
The Witch
The Witch is a medium to long-range character who specializes in dealing tons of damage. They wield a flying spear and can adapt to most situations. The Witch’s unique abilities include:
- Piercing Storm, where the Witch will throw their spear in the enemy’s direction.
- Dancing Spear, an aerial attack which evolves into a spinning move that deals insane damage while also providing a protective shield until the attack concludes.
- Storm Spear, another spinning move that deals damage and slows down enemies by 20% for 3 seconds.
- Rain of Spears, which is the Witch’s Ultimate Ability. It manifests as a legion of spears that rain from the sky, dealing ridiculous damage against enemies.
The Witch has a series of passive abilities that help to boost the party, including:
- Rapid Stream, which gives normal attacks a chance to increase party speed.
- Armor Crash, which allows normal attacks to reduce enemy defense for 6 seconds, and can stack up to five times.
- Bright Mirror, which allows for increased damage and guaranteed critical hits every 8 basic attacks.
- Final Illusion, which temporarily increases defense for characters under 20% HP.
- Emergency Maneuvers, which allows for a chance to increase evasion, and can stack up to five times.
I know that I just said I really like DPS characters. But, in that same breath, I’m not a big fan of long range attackers. It’s for that reason that I am putting The Witch in the “B” tier. I’m not saying I wouldn’t try playing as this class, but it would not be my first pick. It wouldn’t be my second pick, either, but we’ll get to that shortly.
The Destroyer
The Destroyer is a classic barbarian / tank character who wields a gigantic hammer. The Destroyer’s unique abilities include:
- Full Swing, a spin-to-win ability that deals damage.
- Brutal Strike, where the Destroyer swings their hammer twice, dealing damage against enemies.
- Ground Slam, an aerial ability where the Destroyer slams down on unsuspecting enemies.
- Hammer of Fury, which is the Destroyer’s Ultimate Ability. It manifests as a giant hammer that crushes foes, dealing ridiculous damage against enemies.
The Destroyer has a series of passive abilities that help to boost the party, including:
- Just Guard, which offers a chance to reduce damage for seven seconds.
- Indomitable Soul, an auto-heal ability that restores health once it’s been lowered to under 20%.
- Oath of Revenge, which increases defense, attack speed, and movement speed upon taking large damage.
- Counter Slow, which offers a chance to reduce enemy attack speed and movement speed.
- Stand Firm, which offers a chance for each enemy attack to not take more than 50% of health.
I am always drawn to tank characters in games like these. So, for that reason alone, I am placing The Destroyer in the “S” tier. I adore classes that allow me to go in hammers blazing, so to speak.
The Rogue
The Rogue is a ranged attacker who can also double as support to increase the party’s efficiency. The Rogue’s unique abilities include:
- Rain of Arrows, which rains down arrows on your enemies.
- Multi-Shot, which pushes enemies away by shooting forward in a cone.
- Evasion Shot, which shoots forward in a line, while dodging backwards.
- Spirit Arrow, which is the Rogue’s Ultimate Ability. It manifests as a great spirit launching an arrow at unsuspecting foes, dealing ridiculous damage against enemies.
The Rogue has a series of passive abilities that help to boost the party, including:
- Quick Move, which increases attack and movement speed for a duration of five seconds every five attacks.
- Burst Charge, which increases the party’s ultimate gauge.
- Barrier Breaker, which increases damage against enemies inflicted with slow or who have a barrier.
- Enmity, which increases damage given, and increases damage taken, for five seconds.
- Death Hunter, which increases damage when targeted by foes. It can stack up to seven times.
As with the Witch, I’m not the biggest fan of ranged attackers. But, I like the balance between attacker and support, so I will be placing The Rogue in the “B” tier, as well.
The Engineer
The Engineer is a ranged attacker who can also double as a healer to keep the party alive. The Engineer’s unique abilities include:
- Burst Coil, which is an aerial strike that deals damage and inflicts a one-second stun to enemies.
- Elemental Blast, which unleashes the element of your weapon in a line, inflicting damage and slows down enemies by 15% for 2 seconds.
- Explosive Bullet, shoots a bullet in a line, inflicting AoE damage.
- Artillery Strike, which is the Engineer’s Ultimate Ability. It manifests as a duo of cannons that deal ridiculous damage against enemies.
The Engineer has a series of passive abilities that help to boost the party, including:
- Protection of Light, which offers a chance to gain a barrier, which increases your attack upon its conclusion.
- Pure Medic, which increases healing abilities of both yourself and familiars.
- Conversion, which will heal you beyond your maximum HP, converting any excess HP into a barrier.
- Fast Trick, which offers a chance to reduce ability cooldowns by 1 second every 15 seconds.
- Barrier Mastery, which allows the Engineer to gain resistance against crowd control when a barrier is in play.
I think I have made it clear that I am not a fan of ranged attackers, but like with the Rogue, I like the balance between damage and healing, and for that reason, I am placing The Engineer in the “A” tier alongside the Swordsman.
