Minecraft The Wild Update: Where to Find Tadpoles & Frogspawn

The only things more adorable than frogs are frog babies!

Frogs have finally been added to Minecraft! These adorable amphibians can be found everywhere in Minecraft and are always hoppy to see you! Their babies are impossibly more adorable than they are and are easier to find than you think. There are two biomes where tadpoles and frogspawn can be found: swamp biomes and mangrove swamp biomes, which aren’t too hard to find.

If you’ve ever wanted to see a pixelated tadpole, then you’re in luck! All players need to do to catch a glimpse of these baby frogs is locate a swamp biome or a mangrove swamp biome. If you’d like to capture a tadpole to bring home as a pet, all you need to do is click on it with a water bucket, similar to capturing a fish in Minecraft.

How to Find a Swamp or Mangrove Swamp Biome

Exploring will always be the most fun way of discovering locations in Minecraft, especially with all the new updates that have been added. Frogs can be found everywhere, but tadpoles and frogspawn in Minecraft can be found only in the swamp and mangrove swamp biomes. Thankfully, these biomes aren’t too difficult to find.

The mangrove swamp biomes are usually located near warmer regions, such as jungles, badlands, deserts, or savannas. Starting your search in warm Minecraft biomes will significantly increase your chance of finding a mangrove swamp biome. The mangrove swamp biome and the swamp biome are primarily water-based biomes, so searching for bodies of water may also aid you in your search.

How to Use the /locate Command

If you don’t feel like exploring or are just on a time crunch, try using the /locate command to locate the swamps! You don’t need to be savvy with Minecraft commands to use this command, all you need to do is to follow these easy steps:

  1. Open the chat feature in Minecraft.
  2. Type /locatebiome minecraft:mangrove_swamp into the chat box (if you’re locating the mangrove swamp biome).
  3. The coordinates of the closest mangrove swamp biome should then appear.

What Do Tadpoles and Frogspawn Do?

Tadpoles and frogspawn in Minecraft are similar to tropical fish, in the sense that they’re mostly just there to be cute. However, when these babies grow up into frogs, they become a lot more useful. Frogs can be used to make frog lights, a decorative, light-emitting block new to Minecraft.

Tadpoles and frogspawn are the prerequisites to frogs in Minecraft. Eggs laid by frogs (frogspawn) will eventually hatch into tadpoles, which will later grow into frogs. Tadpoles can also be scooped up into water buckets to keep as temporary pets. To do this, all players need to do is to fill a bucket with water, and use it to click on a swimming tadpole, similar to catching a fish.
