Will Marvel’s Midnight Suns have Microtransactions?

It’s frustrating that, prior to a major game release, the first question we all have to ask ourselves is “how much will they make us pay on top of the initial entry fee?” Monetization of games is a complicated and irritating topic, but at the very least, we can try to determine what to expect prior to a game’s release. On that note, after the massive microtransaction fest that was Marvel’s Avengers, anyone would be well within their right to be skeptical about Marvel’s Midnight Suns. So, will Marvel’s Midnight Suns have microtransactions?

The recent revelation that Midnight Suns’ tactics system would rely heavily on a card system inspired its fair share of skepticism, as many games that rely heavily on card systems make use of things like randomized card packs, and that’s on top of the potential for things like individual character boosts and cosmetics. Thankfully, the developers of Midnight Suns are well aware of the concerns and made sure to address them as soon as possible.

Will Marvel’s Midnight Suns have Microtransactions?

The developers clarified on the game’s official Twitter that there will be little-to-no microtransactions in Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

Cards can only be earned in-game, there are no loot boxes or card packs, and there are no pay-to-win stat boosters. The only paid DLC will be a few character cosmetics, and the devs have also clarified that you can earn lots of cosmetics from just playing the game, so those are only there for the folks who really want them.

Unlike Marvel’s Avengers, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is intended to be a completely self-contained single-player tactics experience; no always-online stuff, no pay-to-win, just a good old-fashioned single-player story. Of course, if the game does well in sales, there may be some post-launch stuff, but that’s another discussion.
