Marvel’s Avengers: How to Unlock and Play as the Winter Soldier

Marvels Avengers receives new content.

Marvel’s Avengers is a game that has flown under the radar for most gamers since it’s controversial launch in 2020. There haven’t been too many content updates since then and the ones that have been released haven’t had much content besides last year’s War for Wakanda update. This year so far, a few missions have been released along with Mighty Thor. The most recent update features the Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes as a playable character. In this guide, you’ll find out how to unlock and play as him.

Who is the Winter Soldier?

Bucky Barnes was once Captain America’s best friend and sidekick. After a mission goes wrong, Captain America is left frozen in ice and Bucky is left for dead and later captured and forced to become a brainwashed assassin known as the Winter Soldier. In the comics, he’s captured by Hydra but in Marvel’s Avengers, he’s instead captured by Department X, a covert Russian agency. Eventually, Bucky breaks free of his brainwashing and joins the Avengers.

How to Unlock the Winter Soldier

Since Marvel’s Avengers has seemingly abandoned its old format of releasing story missions alongside new characters, the Winter Solider is instantly playable. Just make sure you have the latest patch downloaded.

Playing as the Winter Soldier

At the time of this writing, Winter Soldier feels like Captain America with an overpowered gun instead of shield. He’s a strong melee fighter with an emphasis on his intrinsic ability, which is a parry with his metal arm. His gun makes melee attacks feel pointless as he can take out most normal enemies with just one or two shots. When you spend your first skill points, spend some of them on the light and heavy attacks unless you grow attached to his overpowered rifle.
