Marriageable candidates in Wylde Flowers, Ranked

Challenge near on impossible as a ranked list, no?

Wylde Flowers is a delightful life sim that plays around with two specific genres – that of farming sim plus an alchemy/witch system during its night time. Along with life sim elements one can expect such as relationship meters with its entire folks living in the idyllic, small town space, the optional side to it is becoming romantically involved with your special someone. With a total of seven lovely villagers to get familiar with and bond enough to develop those warm and fuzzy feelings towards, Wylde Flowers should be next on your purchase list if you are into your dating sims too. But who should you focus on?

1. Westley

It’s probably no surprise that our favourite marriageable candidate (and best boy) of Wylde Flowers is Westley in our eyes. As a romanceable character of the title, he stands out for being the only one who is clearly tied to Ravenwood Hollow, an initially secret and unique location that opens up to players after the first Spring roles by. This is due to narrative reasonings, and once players meet the sharp toothed darling, his appeal becomes immediately apparent.

He’s a lone wolf in every sense and definition of the word. His rather isolated existence that can be simply witnessed in how he barely gets to visit Fairhaven and is separated from human interaction for the most part makes it easy to warm up to him when Tara and himself are so relatable in that way. Not only are they both still finding their footing and place in their new homes, making it a joint effort when they come together, but his plotline being connected to the Witch Coven also makes him feel just that smidge more integral to the story more so than the other romanceable characters.

2. Giva

Funnily enough like our top pick, Giva arrives much later in the game. However, her arrival’s requirement is the simple repairment of the bridge that leads into her study in the Mountain Pass. With this being a one-time job, her introduction is a memorable one in how she is flung into the community in the exact way that Tara is – having to greet every single Villager in the Mayor’s self-made “fun” game of his for any newcomer to Fairhaven to complete. No questions asked.

With her passions being career motivating in how she is solely driven to find the reason behind the unusual weather of Fairhaven (you know with the source being you, Tara, the player character), the building up of their relationship is already an entertaining one to see play out for this reason alone. Let alone Giva’s personal struggles being a relatable and heart-warming tale of accepting oneself and moving to a new place you can call home where everyone can accept you for you. That’s because her parents struggle to understand and accept her sexuality, and how she gradually opens up about it deserves to be listened to and appreciated to show that we care.

3. Damon

Damon is a sociable, lovable and dependable guy – the latter point there being particularly significant and memorable in how the late-game storyline involving the Witch Coven comes into play. But to backtrack now – Damon had been left to keep his family bar up and running after his parents moved back to South Africa. Knowing that they left the business in the young but capable hands of Damon, he thrived with keeping it managed and maintained through sheer loyalty and dedication to all that his parents had once worked for and provided for Fairhaven.

He is greatly likable and even relatable in how he has made found family connections with certain townsfolk of Fairhaven after this lifechanging event, having been left to his own devices and finding his footing on his own at such a young age. He makes a wonderful spouse in how he helps to steer and direct Tara whose roots are only just beginning to take as she now learns how to become a part of Fairhaven too.

4. Kai

Kai is an easy-going villager who has a love for surfing. Despite this, past injuries and other health risks has kept him away from committing to the sport full-time as he can be found running his stall for the most part instead. His love for life, laid back nature and sheer optimism makes him easy to adore, but the particular baggage he has feels to have more draw backs in wooing him when you go deeper into it.

Ultimately, Kai ranks lower in our opinion for how his relationship with the player character can rob him of opportunities that may very well have him lead a far happier life without Tara in it. It’s hard to say really, but his passion for surfing is such a defining trait to his character that staying in Fairhaven when he could be catching the waves feels far too bittersweet of a conclusion to come to compared to what he could have outside of it. We would much rather leave Kai single so that he can leave Fairhaven and mingle with the crowd who shares his same interests and welcome him into the lifestyle he has always wanted for himself.

5. Kim

We really love Kim, the local butcher of Fairhaven. With their past behind them after coming to Fairhaven, their origin story is arguably the toughest of them all for their family failing to be welcoming to them due to their gender identity not being accepted by their parents – especially that of their Father. Despite this, Kim fondly remembers and cherishes just how much their Father influenced them in their current skills and aspiration for their career as far back as when they were a kid as they helped out in their family’s restaurant.

Due to the pre-existing tension in their family dynamic, the settling down in Fairhaven still comes with its own issues for them, such as how not everyone respects their pronouns. It’s a shame once players manage to make them open up because of their more than understandable walled off nature due to their past that hides just how well-intending and lovable they really are. They deserve respect and compassion, but luckily, even if you choose to not romance them, they will end up in a relationship with our next romanceable candidate on the list. For this reason alone, I prefer to ship these two together as I feel awful for splitting up the only other possible romance to blossom in the game.

6. Amira

Amira certainly makes an impression in how she tends to lay it on thick when she meets and greets Tara, the newest cutie to hit the town. While she certainly has quite the magnetic personality in how energetic and charming she is in and out of the medical bay as the local doctor of Fairhaven, her past and present ties to characters makes her much less appealing to pursue for various reasons.

Firstly, her ex is a character players can and will encounter in the game at some point. Their history that is still evidently playing on Amira’s mind and heart in the early days of Tara’s arrival makes romancing her a point of contention for the player for how they may feel like they are imposing in on a situation. So secondly, this therefor makes it that much more natural and agreeable to see her eventually move on with Kim instead by the end-game. I enjoy matchmaking as much as getting involving in the romancing myself and in this way, this plays out in a much healthier fashion in our opinion.

7. Cameron

Coming dead last in our list is Cameron for reasons we probably do not need to go too in-depth in. Being seen as rather problematic by the game’s very own islanders, Cameron is the only source of concern in Fairhaven (outside of all the Witchy activity that is) for how he runs the League of the Conscious Mind. While having his own set of morals, such as not seeing worth in Damon’s bar, he is still coming from the right place. Considering how some islanders are struggling to combat their alcoholism, it is an understandable concern, but throwing around fantastical terms such as reaching the “Pinnacle” to find one’s success, it’s more far-reaching than actually being of worth.

On the flip side, Cameron did come from a rough past and has ended up in a better place by ultimately turning his life around. It is impressive and uplifting, but maybe pushing such ideals onto every other person on the island can be turned down a notch. His approaches tend to be resulting in jumping down your throat more times than not.
