EA reveals new features for Madden 22 Face of the Franchise mode

EA has been slowly rolling out information on Madden 22, and for those who are fans of the popular Face of the Franchise mode, big changes are coming. It seems as though Madden 22’s Face of the Franchise has faced a major overhaul, including new features like a class progression system, an enhanced season engine, and more. Here’s a rundown of all the new changes from the Madden 22 Face of the Franchise trailer.

Madden 22 Face of the Franchise Trailer Explained

Instead of going into too much detail, EA released a trailer with the senior design director, Ryan Santos, giving a brief overview of what’s to come. In the trailer, Santos notes that this year’s version of Face of the Franchise: United We Rise will carry forth many similar features from the year’s past, like journeying through college and the draft. However, there will also be a wide variety of brand-new aspects to the popular game mode. There was a list of new features that have been added shown in the trailer, some of which include:

  • New United We Rise: Road to the Draft Prologue
  • New Class Progression System
  • New Multi-Game Scenarios and Gameday Goals
  • New Weekly Side Activity Choices
  • New In-Game Pressure Moments
  • New Career HUB
  • New Career Podcast Coverage
  • Enhanced Season Engine

In Madden 22, you will begin with a prologue called Road to the Draft, where you will start as a college player and work your way up to the NFL. Much like in previous years’ Face of the Franchise, you will be given the option to work out for a team prior to the NFL draft, with your decisions (both on and off the field) impacting where you land come draft time.

Class Progression System and Special Abilities

However, what’s different about Madden 22’s Face of the Franchise: United We Rise, is that there will be a brand-new class progression system available.

Within the game’s customization hub, you will have the ability to give your player “special abilities” to fit your unique playstyle, as well as individual archetypes based on existing players (much like in MLB The Show).

For example, “The Magician” (Patrick Mahomes) is a quarterback archetype that would allow you to detect defenses and make effective decisions both in and outside of the pocket. While “Hawk” would be a defensive archetype for a linebacker, allowing them to excel in the middle of the field to maintain control of the game.

Another significant change in this year’s Face of the Franchise mode is the ability to play with both offensive and defensive positions. Outside of the three primary offensive positions available to choose from (quarterback, running back, wide receiver), you will also have the option to play as an NFL linebacker.

Madden 22 Face of the Franchise Archetypes

The official Madden 22 Face of the Franchise: United We Rise trailer revealed the following archetypes for each position:

  • “The General” (QB)
  • “The Magician” (QB)
  • “Lightspeed” (QB)
  • “The Shadow” (RB)
  • “Juggernaut” (RB)
  • “Double Agent” (RB)
  • “Moonshot” (WR)
  • “Pathfinder” (WR)
  • “Lucky 7’s” (WR)
  • “Hawk” (LB)
  • “Infiltrator” (LB)

Keep in mind that this may not be a complete list of Madden 22 archetypes. We only know what was showcased in the trailer.

You will also be able to link up with your The Yard avatar for unified progression within the two game modes, giving you more options to level up.
