The Forest is a first-person survival horror experience developed by Endnight Games. In the game, players step into the shoes of the sole survivor of a plane crash. To make matters infinitely worse, they’re surrounded by a society of cannibalistic mutants whom they must avoid if they want to make it home. It’s a classic PvE situation, except the environment here is — seemingly — sentient.
If that sounds even the least bit interesting, the next question on your mind is likely: can I play it? And, if so, can I play on multiple devices? If these questions sound familiar, we here at Gamer Journalist have the answers. So, what consoles is The Forest available on, and does the game support cross-platform play?
What Consoles is The Forest On?
As of publication, The Forest is exclusively available for PS4 and PC. It can be purchased via Steam, The Humble Bundle Store, and the PlayStation Store.
Is The Forest on Xbox?
As of publication, The Forest is not available on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. In an exclusive interview with GamingBolt, Anna Terekhova of Endnight Games seemed to suggest that it’s a timed PS4 exclusive.
“Sony had first contacted us back when the initial trailer for the game was released,” Terekhova said. “We were able to build up a really good relationship with them, and knowing that as a small team we would only be able to focus on one console at a time being exclusive for a short period of time made sense.”
When asked specifically if The Forest would come to Xbox, they said they’d love to bring it over, but did not confirm nor deny the possibility. That said, it’s been four years since launch, so there’s a chance that any plans that might have existed are now nothing but ashes in the wind.
Does The Forest Support Cross-Platform Play?
No. While the game may be available via PS4 and PC, there is no cooperative play between platforms. If you want to play with friends, unfortunately you’ll both need to be playing on PS4 or PC.
