Open-world games are a mixed bag of game of the year recipients and failures. You see, attempting to build upon a well-established universe or franchise can be quite difficult thanks to the available lore or the passion of the fans. Get a little too creative with the source material, 0/10. Make an open-world that feels empty and barren, 0/10 again. The balance is to be able to incorporate the world, the lore, the characters, and the feeling of a beloved source and bring life to the world you will encounter in the video game. That is media translation, folks, and if there is a media that needs a well-translated game, it is the Harry Potter world, also called, the Wizarding World. So, is Hogwarts Legacy open-world? Let’s find out, shall we?
Is Hogwarts Legacy Open-World?
There are some worlds and franchises overall that would perfectly fit the bill for open-world game candidates. And, of course, the Wizarding World is of course one of the top ones on the list. With such an amount of lore, thanks to the movies, the books, the media in general, it is certainly a no-brainer, but a monumental task as well to make an open-world in this magic-filled world.
Thankfully, the folks at Avalanche Software came to this same conclusion, and, I’m pleased to say, that Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world game! Not only that, it is an action role-playing game as well. That means that there will be a lot of content there for you to discover and lots of places for you to explore. In fact, some reports are saying that in order to fully complete the game, it will take you up to 50 hours of finishing main and side missions. That, for me, is what gaming is all about.

You can now rest assured that you will be able to explore the Wizarding World (not of Harry Potter, yet). So prepare yourself for some encounters with some monsters in the wild, duel battles for your life, and prepare your palate for some butterbeer to share with your friends in this massive digital world.
Hogwarts Legacy is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Windows.
