Dwarf Fortress is the legendary and renown game that lets you take control of a small group of dwarves to establish a mighty fortress. Defaultly a single-player experience, many players have wondered the possibility of a multiplayer experience, where they can build an empire with their friends. And with the Steam release, this question hasn’t been more relevant. Is Dwarf Fortress multiplayer?
Is Dwarf Fortress multiplayer?
Despite how appealing and fun this sounds, Dwarf Fortress is not a multiplayer game, and there has never been consideration or plans to implement it in the future. Dwarf Fortress is a single-player game, but it doesn’t have to be a solitary experience. So don’t look forward to a future multiplayer update.
If you want to enjoy Dwarf Fortress with your friends, you can always invite them round and you all can enjoy the single-instance game together. Alternatively, you can engage with the online communities to share your fort’s progress and to feel less isolated.

There used to be hacky and unofficial ways to enjoy the game socially, such as passing save files around or displaying the game on two monitors, but they work for the old version of the game and will not be supported in the new version.
