How to Increase Your Whistle Level in Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness

Taking "whistle while you work" to a whole 'nother level!

In this exciting addition to the Made in Abyss manga/anime franchise, adventure awaits in the Abyss. Players can take control of a familiar lead from the series or choose to play as an original character of their own. Delving into the depths can be treacherous, and those that take up the challenge of diving have differently colored whistles representing their skill levels.

Novices begin with bells, then move onto the red whistle as apprentice Delvers. From there, blue, moon, black, and white whistles indicate levels of expertise within the Delver Guild. Reaching higher whistle levels allows players to travel deeper into the Abyss, unlocking areas that can potentially contain rare items. It can also unlock powerful skills! So how does one raise their whistle level in Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness?

Explore the Abyss

You’re not going to get very far as a Delver if you don’t start delving. Expeditions will grant you experience for leveling, and the precious relics you may find can also contribute to your gained experience. Get them appraised upon reaching the surface to see what they get you!

Crafting on your journeys is also a must, part of the survival aspect of travels to the Abyss. Cave Raiders must prepare food to stave off hunger and replenish health. Various tools for excavating and protecting against creatures lurking in the dark will also need to be crafted.

Improve Your Skills

The main ways the character levels up are by completing quests and returning from the Abyss with relics. When you level up, you receive a skill point that you can use on various improvements to your Delver. Increased inventory space, new cooking recipes, reduced Stamina costs, and more can all be yours!

Higher character levels and a fleshed-out skill tree often go hand-in-hand with reaching higher whistle levels. Some parts of the skill tree can actually remain blocked off until you finish the last requirements for a whistle upgrade.

Complete Your Quests

If you’ve been exploring the depths like a true Cave Raider, beefing up your skillsets, and still aren’t sure how to obtain the next whistle level, chances are there’s a quest you need to complete. Often these are a bit nested; main storyline quests will outline additional quests (such as Guild Quests) required to be promoted to the next whistle level.

Quests can vary, including excavation and gathering requests from the Delver Guild. While there are moments it can feel a bit “grindy”, that’s all a part of becoming the next great Delver! No White Whistle made their mark without putting in the time and hard work, so get out there and show them what you’re made of.

If you’re finding yourself struggling in the depths due to low Stamina, here are a few tips to help give yourself a boost!

If you haven’t already purchased a copy, Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is available on  PS4Switch, and for Windows users on Steam.
