Signalis is a retro horror game where players will be solving puzzles and avoiding enemies, only shooting if necessary. Alongside the horrors and the expertly crafted uneasy atmosphere, players will be spending most of their time solving the many puzzles that separate them from their goal. When they get their hands on the Blank Key, it may appear that they must do something extra to ready it before using it, unlike the other keys. Here is how to use the Blank Key in Signalis.
How to solve the Blank Key in Signalis
Acquiring the Blank Key
To get the blank key, you must have access to floor B4, the Old Medical Ward. This is done through unflooding the lower level when in the New Medical Ward, through the Pump Room puzzle. Once that is done, you can safely jump down to the lower level.
In the Flooded Store Room, highlighted above, you will find the Blank Key sitting on a surface. Pick it up. This Blank Key is not like the other keys, of fire and water and whatnot. This key needs to be programmed before you can use it.
Setting up the Blank Key
Back up in floor B3, the New Medical Ward, there is a room called ‘Imaging’, in the North Corridor. In that room is an X-Ray machine, at the very top. You can interact with it to see an X-Ray image of numerous items. One of the items happens to be a key, like all the others. This is a key that you need for the door, however it is stuck in the machine and you cannot get it out.
So, instead of rescuing it, we are going to programme that same sequence of dots onto the Blank Key and use that instead. Copy down the pattern, and don’t forget to remember the orientation and relation of the sequence to the cut corner of the key, to make sure you copy it exactly as presented.

With the sequence of the key down, we must go to a different room, the Office, above Reception. In the Office is a PC where you can insert the Blank Key. Once you have, you can define the pattern. You only get a certain amount of moves, so start in the top left and work you way down the pattern.
Once you have defined the pattern, select ‘print pattern’ to get your Blank Key back. No matter what pattern you have, it will always read ‘Blank Key’. You will only know if it is right or not when you insert it into the 5-lock puzzle. And don’t worry, you can always redefine the pattern if you have got it wrong.
Using the Blank Key
WIth your defined Blank Key, you can make your way to the 5-lock door, as long as you have all the other keys. Insert them all. If it doesn’t open, then you’ll have to rethink your pattern on the Blank Key.
