Those familiar with the first Slime Rancher game should feel right at home with the upgrade and unlocking system introduced in the sequel. Overall everything is fairly similar, though there are some new bits and pieces to catch one’s eye! Let’s take a deeper look at how to upgrade your equipment in Slime Rancher 2.
Find the Laboratory
Slime Rancher 2 gives you a home base in the Conservatory, a sprawling area with everything an enterprising young slime rancher might need. In order to do any upgrading, you will need to find the underground lab. To the left of the Plort Market and behind the player’s house lies a dark stairway leading downwards. Head on down to find the generous space and your two star pieces of machinery: the Refinery and the Fabricator.
How to Use the Refinery & Fabricator
Interacting with the Fabricator will bring up a display for browsing available upgrades and unlockable pieces of equipment. Selecting a particular upgrade will show you a list of items required to unlock the upgrade, along with an associated Newbucks cost.
Once you have collected the necessary items, you must transfer them into the Refinery. Only upon doing so will you be able to head over to the Fabricator and purchase your upgrade. Keep in mind that anything you transfer to the Refinery cannot be transferred back to your inventory.

What Upgrades Are Available?
Players will find a plethora of upgrades available in the Fabricator. Upgrades include health increases, energy boosts, reduced energy costs while sprinting, a personal jetpack, storage upgrades, and a pulse wave emitter for when slimes get a little too close for comfort. With Slime Rancher 2’s brand new island to explore, you better get started on upgrading your equipment!
