Darkwood is an extremely challenging game. A large factor to your survival is going to be your workbench, which is where you can craft life-saving items such as weapons, traps, healing items, and more. But if you want to survive for long in the woods, you’ll need to upgrade it, giving you more items to craft and upgrades to be had. Here is how to upgrade your workbench in Darkwood.

How to upgrade the workbench in Darkwood

The workbench can be upgraded many times, which each upgrade giving you more and more use for the workbench. You cannot create another workbench, but there are other workbenches out there for you to find. They will all for the most part be the same level as each other, so if you upgrade one, you upgrade them all.

It would be wise to upgrade the workbench to level 2 as quickly as is possible, as the level 1 workbench cannot provide your weapons with any upgrades. Each new level of the workbench will cost more and more, so pay attention to what it requires to plan ahead.

Sourcing the parts

For the first upgrade, you will merely need ten nails and six wood planks. This is realistically not much at all, but for a new player, it may seem impossible to acquire.

For the unaware player, Darkwood is not the most intuitive game to navigate, especially early-on.

To get most of your resources, you will have to explore and scavenge, searching buildings, sites, and crates. Nothing comes easy, and most things are finite. Nails are generously enough scattered around the Dry Meadows, the starting area, and wood can also be found there, in some places more abundantly than others.

You will have to keep searching and looking, your map will fill with landmarks as you explore but they are incredibly easy to miss. Explore thoroughly and leave no stone unturned.

After your second night, you will be visited by the trader. Every day, you get 100 reputation to trade with him. It would be a good idea early on to trade for nails and wood, to barricade your windows as well as work towards the upgrade. In Darkwood, you really cannot have enough wood.
