Ubisoft are back and their latest attempt to take over the Gaming Industry comes in a Free-to-Play Arena Game. But is anyone surprised? With the consistent, although turbulent rise of Modern Warfare 2’s Warzone and DMZ, and Apex Legends, the move to a Free-to-Play FPS with Pay-to-Win cosmetic items is one that many will have anticipated. Other AAA Developers were bound to jump in on the action and XDefiant is no different. Labelled as the possible COD Killer, will XDefiant rise to take down the biggest in the game? It is hard to say. But with Call of Duty style gameplay and Apex Legends classes, there is definitely something for players to enjoy. However, with most Ubisoft games comes the difficulty to even play, due to the blown out colorscheme of their games with HDR enabled. This is our guide on how to turn OFF HDR Mode in XDefiant.
How to Fix Display in XDefiant
Just like with other Ubisoft games such as Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs, the ability to turn HDR ON or OFF can backfire due to your other in-game Settings. Not only this but, depending on whether you have HDR enabled in the first place on either PC or Console can too impact your game. For those who have played the Closed Beta for XDefiant (April 13th-23rd, 2023), you may have experienced these visual issues with the game already, making your first impressions of this Free-to-Play game more negative than it needs to be.
Disable HDR on Windows/ Console
Before you head into XDefiant, you should disable HDR first via your Settings. For PC users, head into your System Settings – Display – HDR. From here you can disable HDR if you already had this enabled. On PS5, go to Settings – Screen and Video – Video Output – scroll down to HDR to turn OFF. Finally, on Xbox go into Settings – TV & Display Options – Video Modes – disable Auto HDR and set to your preferences. Having HDR enabled can mess with any in-game Settings you would have on default and when disabling HDR in-game, it will not fix the visual issues you may have experienced such as blown-out or greyed-out colors.
Adjust your in-game Settings
Next, you will need to adjust your XDefiant Settings. You need to head to the Video & Graphics Tab and scroll down to Graphics Setting. Under this section, the first option is to either turn ON or OFF DX12 Rendering. You need to turn this ON. Directly underneath DX12 you will find the option to enable or disable HDR Mode in-game. Have this turned OFF to fix any issues you may have had. This way regardless, HDR is turned off both on your PC/ Console and in the game itself. You can of course, turn this back on when you turn XDefiant off and go into another game but this should fix any issues you are having with HDR in this game.
Restart XDefiant
Finally, following from the previous steps, you will want to restart your game. If this does not work, try restarting your PC/ Console and then checking if this has saved your Settings and fixed the HDR issue. For many players a simple game restart has worked with the DX12 enabled and HDR disabled. However, if this still has not fixed your problem (highly likely for PC users), we have a couple other methods. You can try changing the Windowed Mode in the in-game Video & Graphics Settings to Windowed (Not Full Screen) which for some has fixed the issue. Alternatively, if your Monitor is the problem, head back into your Windows Settings and into your Monitor Settings to turn Adaptiv Sync OFF.
That was our guide on how to turn off HDR Mode in XDefiant. We hope these solutions worked for you so that you can actually play this game. For other FPS Games such as Call of Duty or Apex Legends, feel free to check out our guide on Gamer Journalist. Thank you for reading.
