The Difference Between Predator and Prey – How to Go Stealth in Aliens: Dark Descent

Not all encounters can be solved just by mowing down hordes of Aliens with grenades and rockets.

When you think of the Aliens franchise, you normally don’t think of humans as being the key threat. While in other games such as Alien: Isolation, the major presence of horror is predicated on the fact that somewhere, there’s an alien stalking you. But what if for once, we humans were the ones who were doing the hunting. In Aliens: Dark Descent, there is a chance for players to take out Xenomorphs quietly, something that usually isn’t the M.O. for space marines. However with the right upgrades and a little bit of luck, you too can pick off those nasty neerdowells from a safe distance. So let’s grab some snipers and figure out how to stealth kill in Aliens: Dark Descent.

Unfortunately, there is not a way to melee stealth kill in Aliens: Dark Descent. Which could be a blessing in disguise, as getting to close to one of those things might not be in your best interest. In order to be able to stealth kill in this game, you’ll need to unlock the Recon Marine class. This can be done by leveling your marines to level 3 and being able to choose your respective classes. Where the luck comes in, is the fact that every marine only gets 2 random class choices upon leveling up. So you might get lucky and have the option of a Recon Marine on your first marine, or you might have to keep leveling other characters up in hopes of getting the class option.

Now that you have your Recon Marine, you’ll need to equip them with the proper tools. Make your way to the Barracks, select your Recon Marine, and go to upgrades. You’ll then need 30 materials in order to unlock the Silencer for their weapon. The Silencer will occupy an upgrade slot and when using your precision shot, won’t make any audible sound. During a mission, using a precision shot will cost one Command Point and takes a bit of time for your shot to go off. So if you’re too close, you might not have time to pull off the shot before the Xenomorphs are aware of your presence. If you shoot an alien in the head with a precision shot, it will one-hit kill them if they are weak enough enemies. Larger, beefier enemy types won’t go down so easy, but it will do a decent amount of damage.
