How to Solve the God of War Seasons Puzzle

Oh, this one gave me a headache. God of War (2018) was surely an emotional ride from start to finish, specially if parenthood is a topic that hits very close to home. And with Atreus and Kratos relationship dynamic, a lot of the puzzles in the game will depend on the ability of both characters to work together, and their ability to listen to each other. Well, this is one of those puzzles. Here is how to solve the God of War seasons puzzle.

How to Solve the God of War Seasons Puzzle

During the hunt for the Magic Chisel, we will encounter a puzzle during the “Find a way to the hammer’s head” part of the mission. It consists of four symbols on the wall that represent the seasons: Spring (flower), Summer (sun), Autumn (leaf), and Winter (snowflake). You guessed it, you are meant to align the symbols. Just throw your axe towards the shields beneath them in order to progress. In which order do you ask? Atreus remembers a little song sang to him by her mother, Faye, which unveils the order to be: Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn. However, if you try to align them in that order, nothing will happen.

If you and me are alike, probably you’re reporting a bug, or restarting your game, you’re wondering if maybe you missed a certain ability or something. However, there is a second clue that is easy to miss at the beginning of the puzzle. When Atreus approached the sand riddle, he read the following: “When time itself is disarrayed / The forward path is retrograde.” After the big “oh” moment, you will realize that the correct order of the symbols is the order of Faye’s song, but backwards. That is: Autumn (leaf), Summer (sun), Spring (flower), Winter (snowflake). Once finished, press square and Atreus will solve the puzzle. What ensues is a huge battle, so don’t lower your shield yet. Or your axe. Or the boy’s arrows. In fact, don’t lower anything. Good luck!
