How to Soft Reset in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

  1. Given you have control of the main character, press the X button to open the menu.
  2. On the right hand side of the screen there is the Main Menu. Navigate down to Options.
  3. To successfully soft reset, you will need to turn off Autosave. This keeps the game from saving unless you manually have done so. Scroll down and change the setting to Off.
  4. Then click A to confirm. It will ask if you’d like to save the settings click Yes.
  5. Now the game no longer autosaves, you can press down on the Home button to return your Switch to the home screen.
  6. Press X to close to software. You can restart the game and now repeat this process for as many times as you need!

For a casual playthrough of Pokemon, having the Autosave on can be super helpful. But for those who like to be extra careful, there is a lot of power in being able to restart at a specified save point of your choosing.
