How to Power Jump in Them’s Fightin’ Herds

Shoot for the Stars.

I am about to save all your lives. In the third area of Them’s Fightin’ Herds’ first chapter, entitled ‘At the Mountains of Sadness,’ Arizona stumbles upon a colossal mountain range. It’s here where you’re faced with yet another platforming mini-game, only this time, not only do you have enemies to fend off, but also, the platforms are remarkably higher than normal.

In addition, the first enemy barely notices you. And, if you are somehow able to land a few hits, they’ll fall to the ground — motionless. If you’re anything like me, you might be tempted to assume this is a game-breaking bug that’s impeded your progress. But, I am here to tell you that it’s not! In fact, the only thing wrong with the game is that the instructions aren’t as clear as they should be.

OK, so — there’s apparently supposed to be a tutorial on how to do this in-game, but I have seen no such tutorial. I imagine it will be added at some point after this article is published, so hopefully, that’s the case. But, until it’s corrected, there needs to be a guide on how to pull this off. Had I not reached out to the PR company, who reached out to developers, I would’ve assumed it was a game-breaking bug.

So, when you first gain control of Arizona in this section, interact with the lightning bolt stone. It’ll throw you right into the platforming mini-game, with a bird patrolling back and forth above you. If you jump normally, you’ll find that you can reach the next level, but no further. Now; I played on PS4, so I can only offer assistance on that platform. But, the solution could be universal.

In order to power jump, you’re going to have to quickly move the joystick down, then up. If you pulled it off, then you’ll instantly notice that you jumped a lot higher than normal. If you strategically apply this to the entire level, you’ll eventually face the boss enemy, whom the life bar at the top belongs. So, if you were wondering why the smaller enemies don’t disappear here, nor why the life bar isn’t draining, that’s why. It’s because these are merely goons, while the real baddie is further above. I hope that helped!
