Icarus can be a lonely place to explore by yourself, but luckily, it can be a multiplayer co-op experience. It’s always nice to have a friend nearby to revive you so that you don’t take that nasty XP penalty from respawning. In this guide, we will show you how to join and play with friends in Icarus so you and your squad and take on the alien wilderness of terraforming gone wrong.

Icarus supports up to eight players in co-op, and it is also possible to play solo. The process of playing with friends in Icarus is similar to many games on Steam, so you may already know most of these steps. There is no special in-game menu for joining friends, so you can follow the steps outlined below if you are new to Steam.

How to Play With Friends in Icarus

Here’s how to join and play with friends in Icarus:

  1. Launch Icarus on Steam
  2. Create or choose a character
  3. Choose the New Prospect option
  4. Set the Prospect privacy type to Friends Only
  5. Select the mission you want to play
  6. Open the steam overlay by pressing Shift+Tab
  7. Find your friend’s name on the Friends list
  8. Right-click their name and select Invite

Here is how to join your friend who is already playing Icarus:

  1. Select or create your character
  2. Open the Steam overlay by pressing Shift+Tab
  3. Find your friend’s name on the Friends list
  4. Right-click your friend’s name
  5. Select the Join Game option

To recap, you can join a friend’s game on Icarus through the Steam Friends list. Open the Steam overlay by pressing Shift+Tab while in-game, and find your friend on the Friends list. Right-click the person’s name, and select the Join Game option. After joining their game, you will drop into the session in your dropship, near where all other players started. 

When you load in, remember to start gathering and get enough materials for a bedroll so that you can set your spawn near everyone else. Keep an eye on the mission objectives to the left of the screen. Also, remember not to catch anything on fire and burn down the entire house.
