Mining Limonite in Dwarf Fortress

To mine Limonite, we need a mineral rich environment. On the embark screen, press “F” to find a desirable location. Now, select Flux Stone Layer and change it Yes using the arrow keys. Move over to Shallow Metal and change it Multiple. Now change Elevation to Medium and Drainage to Low or High.

After setting the parameters, use the embark screen to search for the matching areas. You can look further in the green and matching areas to search for Limonite. Once found, you can mine it like any other resource in Dwarf Fortress. Using your dwarfs, mine down to the sedimentary layer in different batches. Once you strike Limonite, use the location to mine in branch or vein patterns to mine the same material.

Converting Limonite to Iron

After finding Limonite, you can convert it to Iron. Assign a dwarf to smelt the Limonite in a Smelter. Activate the furnace operating labor to produce the iron bars.
