After you have created your avatar, and have spoken with Merlin, you’ll be given a task that becomes the tutorial on the island– er, valley. Merlin wants you to find all the royal tools that will help create a beautiful valley that has been overrun by thorns and darkness. One of the tools you will need to acquire is the pickaxe that will be used for mining. In this guide we will show you how to find the pickaxe and mine in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Mining in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Mining is similar to other games that implement mining. Think of Animal Crossing breaking down rocks and getting lucky with finding the money rock. When you are mining in the game you can find resources to use for crafting and gems that can be perfect to sell for coins. In order to unlock mining you have to gain access to the royal pickaxe, which is one of the easiest tools to obtain, since it’s the first tool you need in order to grab hold of the others. Here is a list of the different royal tools you will need to find in order to finish the tutorial:
- Royal pickaxe
- Royal shovel
- Royal fishing rod
- Royal watering can

How to obtain the Royal Pickaxe in Disney Dreamlight
The royal pickaxe is one of the easiest tools your avatar can find. Merlin tells you exactly where it’s located. At first it might be difficult to find because you’re not sure what you’re looking for, other than a pickaxe. Merlin tells you to travel to the plaza where the pickaxe will be in a stone. He even throws in an Easter Egg from Sword in the Stone. The pickaxe is located in the plaza and the stone you are looking for will be surrounded by sparkles. Approach the rock and grab the pickaxe to obtain the royal pickaxe. Your pickaxe is simple to use. If you’re using Nintendo Switch press ‘ZR’ and click pickaxe to wield, approach a rock, press A to mine the rock or gem. This is incredibly important to progress through the game since you need to talk to Goofy who is not reachable unless you destroy the rocks.
