How to Merge Overwatch and Overwatch 2 Accounts

Long queues are to be expected, but you can make accessing Overwatch 2 more of a breeze if you're prepared!

Overwatch 2 is currently suffering the burden of being popular right now with it going live over an hour ago and with long queues still being a problem for the majority of its players. While we wait, we are here to remind you to have your account readily set up for when you finally manage to get into Overwatch 2 to be as smooth sailing as possible.

Merging your Overwatch accounts

Players will want to merge their accounts due to cross-progression if they have already played Overwatch 1. For those who have skins, credits, competitive points and golden weapons unlocked from Overwatch 1, merging your account with your primary Blizzard account is a must. Obviously only do this if you have more than one account.

This is extremely important now since Overwatch 2 requires a mobile phone number to be attached to Battle.net accounts to prevent players from having more than one account to smurf with. Setting everything up can feel daunting at first, but we’re here to help.

So, once you have your mobile number attached to your Blizzard.net account, the next step you will need to do is double check — even triple check to be thorough — that the account you have signed into is the one you want to be playing on. With the mobile number you can simply link and un-link them to the appropriate Battle.net account and can log into the game once you have overcome its queue.

Before Overwatch 2 released there was a highlighted option to merge your account on its home screen. This option is now more tucked away in Overwatch 2. It can be found underneath the “Challenges” section in the main menu. Alternatively, you can use Blizzard’s support articles to fill the details in online. You will need to link the correct consoles or un-link the incorrect consoles via the Battle.net Account Management Page.

If you need any further assistance, send the team a ticket to manually assist you but remember that the team currently have a lot on their hands with the game’s launch. The same goes for current errors that are being experienced, including previously unlocked skins, icons and other cosmetics not appearing despite accounts being merged. There will be no need to panic since Overwatch 2 will need some tweaking to fix the errors.
