Where do you get sticks in Minecraft?

For materials, you just need two blocks of wooden planks. They can be any kind of wood, from oak to acacia, so long as you have two of them. Wood is usually in abundant supply, especially in the forest biomes. As a reminder, you can get wooden planks by placing a single solid block of wood from a tree in the crafting box.

Trees spawn in just about every kind of biome in the game, and a log block can be obtained from any of them. Trees can grow literally anywhere in the world as long as there’s dirt for them to sprout from and light shining down. Even less friendly biomes like snowy plains and deserts can grow certain types of trees like spruce and acacia, respectively. Even if you can’t find trees in these kinds of biomes, you may find abandoned cabins or city ruins. If there are any wooden constructs, you can break their walls for wood, which can be crafted into sticks.

If for some reason, you can’t find any wood or wooden planks lying around, individual sticks can occasionally be obtained by breaking bushes, defeating witch mobs, and fishing them out of the water as junk items.

How do you turn wood into sticks in Minecraft?

Making sticks in Minecraft is a snap. In fact, it’s so easy, you don’t even need a crafting table to do it; you can perform the crafting in your regular 2X2 crafting menu in your inventory.

To make sticks, just place one block of wooden planks in the crafting box, then place another right on top of it or right below it. Two blocks of planks will yield a bundle of four sticks, which will be multiplied if you use stacks of wooden planks. You can also make sticks with two pieces of bamboo arranged in the same way on the crafting table, though this will only yield one stick at a time, which is kind of a waste of bamboo.

What are Sticks Used For?

So you’ve got your pack of sticks, now what do you do with them? As we mentioned before, sticks are a vital component in many tools, weapons, and objects. These constructs include, but are not limited to:

  • Bows and Arrows
  • Axes, Pickaxes, Hoes, Shovels, and Swords
  • Campfires
  • Fishing Rods
  • Item Frames, Paintings, and Signs
  • Ladders
  • Levers
  • Rails
  • Torches
  • Wood Fences

Sticks are one of the most multifunctional objects in all of Minecraft, and that’s saying something. As such, you should always endeavor to have a stack of sticks in your inventory, just in case you need to assemble some emergency tools or exploratory supplies.
