How to Launch an Inquisition in Civ 6

Haters back off! Launch a religions inquisition in Civ 6.

It’s so annoying when your neighbors and other enemy civs spread their religion into your cities in Civ 6. In some cases, you can demand they stop — but that doesn’t mean they will (I’m looking at you, Philip II of Spain).

Fortunately, if you find that your neighbors are being pushy about their proselytizing, there’s a glorious answer: the inquisition. Before we get into how to launch an inquisition in Civ 6, it’s important to understand why.

Why You Should Launch an Inquisition in Civ 6

Prevent a religious victory for another civ. If a rival civ is going for a religious victory, they need to convert all the other civs — including you. You could stand in the way of that religious victory by holding out as true to your original faith.

You get era points, which help you avoid a dark age in the Rise & Fall expansion.

An inquisition helps you hold onto your own religion. The beliefs you selected benefit YOUR civ (terrain, bonuses), which a main reason you want to keep your religion as long as possible.

How to Launch an Inquisition in Civ 6

To launch an inquisition in Civ 6, you need to have founded your religion. That requires faith generation, a holy site, and a great prophet.

Don’t forget to choose a custom religion and name it something creative. I’m sure your dog would like its own religion…consider naming it after them.

Once you have a holy site, you must build an apostle. They cost faith, and they are more expensive than your standard missionary. While they can convert cities, they can also do holy combat. Once per game, they can launch an inquistion.

From there, you can remove 75% of another religion’s presence — the exception being Spain, as the Spanish are notoriously good at inquisitions. They remove 100%. You get three charges of “Remove Heresy.”

After that, you’re able to purchase inquisitor units. Their job is specifically to remove other religions from your cities.

After that, you can create inquisitor units and deploy them in your cities. They’ll uproot those other religions.

Now go save some souls!
