How to Increase the Chances of a Specific Mass Outbreak Appearing in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Skip through the days in search for those rare and special Pokémon

Whilst the Town Method and Picnic Reset can be used throughout the base-game of Scarlet and Violet, there are not many ways to target specific Pokémon when Shiny Hunting. Yes you can use the Picnic Sandwiches in combination with Picnic Resets, you cannot target a specific Shiny Pokémon, only its Typing. Therefore, this is our guide on how to increase those Shiny Odds, through various methods, including that of the Day Skip function on the Nintendo Switch. This can help massively in encountering specific Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How to Increase Shiny Odds

With starting odds of 1/4096, players can use various methods to increase the odds of locating a Shiny Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet. The item which every Pokemon fan knows well is the Shiny Charm. This can only be obtained after completing the Paldea Pokedex and speaking with Mr. Jacq in order to obtain the Charm. This will then increase the odds to 1/2048. However, for those who would rather starty Shiny Hunting in Scarlet and Violet without the large task of catching all Paldean Pokemon, there are two methods that can be done to greatly increase your odds. These are the Town Method and Picnic Reset.

Town Method

The Town Method is simple, head into a City/Town and you will notice that upon entry you will see the name of the City/Town pop up. When leaving, you will see the Province you are entering. This is the invisible line which can be used to cross over as a means of resetting the Pokémon spawn in the nearby area. This can also be done simply by walking away and returning to the same spot, however the Town Method is much quicker to accomplish and is truly effective with Shiny Hunting.

Picnic Reset

The Picnic Reset is another method used to Shiny Hunt, which can be used directly with Sandwich Recipes to enhance those encountering chances. To Picnic Reset, you first need to defeat a minimum of 60 Pokémon in the area with automatic battling. Then you need to place a Picnic and close it, this will reset the Pokémon spawns near you. It is best to use this method when targeting specific Shiny Pokémon-Types.

How to Day Skip in Scarlet and Violet

But how can we target a specific Shiny Pokémon in our hunt? Game Freak has re-introduced the opportunity to use the ability to Day Skip. What this is, is to manually change the date which will automatically reset the Mass Outbreak in Scarlet and Violet. Whilst this is not necessary to do and is the most exploitive method of Shiny Hunting, it is an option for those to do if luck is against you in your hunt. This is how to Day Skip in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Day Skip Steps

  • Travel to the centre of the area where the Pokémon is most likely to spawn in. This will create a radius in which a Mass Outbreak will likely appear.
  • Open a Picnic to make the relevant Pokemon-Type Sandwich to increase your encountering chances.
  • With the game still running, open the Home Page of the Nintendo Switch.
  • Scroll to ‘System Settings‘ and select ‘System‘.
  • On System, select ‘Date and Time‘.
  • From here, turn off ‘Synchronize Clock via Internet‘. Then, manually change the date to one day forward under ‘Date and Time‘ option.
  • Return to the game and you will see a new Mass Outbreak appear.
  • Repeat this process until the Outbreak you are looking for appears. You do not need to make another Sandwich as its effects last for 30 minutes.

Final Thoughts

That is how to Day Skip in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Whilst you do not need to do this to Shiny Hunt, it is incredibly helpful when seeking specific Pokémon-Types that are much harder to encounter than others. Such as Vaporeon and Dondozo who are a pure Type therefore by using Sandwiches, you will target both and many others in your search. Day Skipping is a more effective way to find these harder-to-encounter Shiny Pokémon due to them belonging to a larger pool of Shiny Pokémon than others.
