How to increase army size in Iron Harvest

From tiny soldier to giant robot, everyone takes space.

Iron Harvest is an alternate history RTS game that saw the turmoil of the Great War and decided to add giant mechs into the fray. During the heat of combat, when you have surpluses of iron and oil you may be inclined to produce lots of new mechs to join the frontline. However, you may find yourself limited by your max army size. If you want even more monstrous mechs crushing your enemies, then here is how to increase your maximum army size in Iron Harvest.

What is the army size?

The army size is the upper limit of the value of units you can have in battle. Each unit is worth different ‘army points,’ and when you produce them, your army size increases by the amount of points. Mechs use up much more army points compared to units. So if you have an army entirely of mechs, you would have less units than an army entirely made of soldiers.

It is important to choose wisely so you have a mix of lesser and higher value units, to allow you an army with a larger size. This will allow you to multitask and defend more widely, even if an army of more expensive units may be stronger. In Iron Harvest, it is not all about strength, but strategy.

Typically, the more expensive a unit it, the more army points it will take up. Mechs and soldiers use a shared pool of army points.

Instead of trying to balance lesser and higher value units, you can simply increase the maximum army size. This will allow you to field even more soldiers, which will overwhelm the enemy if they haven’t done the same.

To do this, pan over to your Barracks and Workshop, the buildings responsible for training soldiers and producing mechs, respectively. You will notice that under the recruitable units will be more options available to you.

The bottom left button of that smaller menu will allow you to upgrade the building, which will let you increase the max army size and will unlock new units.

You can upgrade both the Barracks and the Workshop to increase your army size further!
