How to Heal Oatchi in Pikmin 4

Dogs love bones for a reason

A decade since Pikmin 3’s release, the fourth installment has arrived and this time players will have a fluffy, lovable companion to join you throughout your adventure. This wide-eyed, tongue out, no-nosed creature is Oatchi, an innocent and incredibly naïve animal that has just as much learning opportunity as you do throughout your playthrough of Pikmin 4. Throughout your adventure you will face foes such as the multitude of variations of the Bulborb, Sheargrub, Blowhog and more. In doing so, you may find that you are not the only one who suffers from damage absorption. Oatchi can often take in hits for the protagonist in which too many hits can render him unconscious. If you keep finding Oatchi dazed from all of the action, this is Vincent’s guide on how to heal Oatchi in Pikmin 4.

How to Protect Oatchi From Harm

Although it is very difficult to stop any damage coming Oatchi’s way, there are methods in place to heal Oatchi’s health back up to full. The primary way to restore Oatchi’s health is through feeding him Scrummy Bones. These Bones can be found at the Lab, which will cost you a total of 3 Raw Materials with Russ. Alternatively, you can focus on training Oatchi where Shepard will provide you with a Scrummy Bone as a reward for completing the training. Training Oatchi is a smart way to go in Pikmin 4 as he can get rather overpowered, allowing him to passively heal himself over time, learn to swim, upgrade on his strength and attack, whilst being able to explore and find wild Pikmin to bring back to you.

Training Oatchi offers the valuable upgrade in which he can heal himself over time. You will want to teach him Heal Lvl 1 whenever you get the chance using the Pup Drive Points you have available. It is best to upgrade to Lvl 3 so that you do not need to worry about manually healing him when he gets downed. This should also limit the risk of Oatchi getting knocked down by taking too much damage. Although Oatchi can be brought back via the Base, you may find that the Healing upgrade is enough to keep him from getting knocked out of the game.

Finally, players can find Nectar scattered around the map. This can easily be found as Nectar puddles throughout exploration and through interaction, Oatchi can drink the water and restore health this way. Oatchi will drink as much as he needs to fully regain his HP.
