If it wasn’t already implied, it is required that you own the Burned Shores DLC, as this is where the Waterwings are located. After making your way to the new map location, you’ll want to progress the main story until you get to a quest called “For His Amusement.” We will need to complete this in order to acquire a Waterwing.

This quest tasks you with meeting up with your new companion Seyka and overriding a Waterwing. After collecting the necessary materials and crafting a Waterwing override, you can meet Seyka at the Waterwing site. If you don’t remember how to override a machine, simply sneak up behind it and you will get a prompt asking you to hold triangle to override. A cutscene involving Aloy and Seyka will play, and after it has finished, you will now have your very own Waterwing. This new mount will not only provide a new way to travel, but will help in unlocking secret areas around the Burning Shores. Now if only you could combine your Sunwing and Waterwing together.
