So you want to know how to get water in The Forest? What we love so much about The Forest is that, as much as some of it is horror and fiction, the game understands survival quite well. Much like in any real life survivor situation, you best learn to boil the water you collect if you don’t want it to literally kill you. And while there may be water everywhere, from ocean water to sitting water, much of it will not be safe when you discover it.
But a quick 30-second boil and voila, you have water AND it’s safe to drink. But to understand water in The Forest, you first need to understand the three types you’ll encounter and what their uses are.
The Uses of Water in The Forest
- Quench thirst
- Wash the blood off to avoid a blood infection
- Clean dirt and paint from the player’s body
- Hide from the cannibals underwater, where they will not venture
- Swimming across deep bodies of water so that cannibals will give up the chase or drown themselves
- Source of fish and turtles
But obviously, you need clean water if you intend to quench your thirst and survive in this cannibal-infested world. Read on, we got you.
How To Get Water in The Forest
The first thing you need to understand about how to get water is that not all water in The Forest is safe to drink. The three water types in the game are:
- Saltwater, found in the ocean nearby. It is undrinkable.
- Polluted water, found in ponds. It is drinkable, but will damage the player’s health.
- Fresh or clean water, created by catching rain in water collectors or by boiling polluted water in a pot.
So long story short, if you want drinkable water, you have no choice but to collect rainfall in rainfall collectors or you can just collect and boil it. You can also boil pond water to make it safe.
But even that is rather quick and easy.
How To Clean your Collected Water
Boiling the polluted pond liquid or rainwater will purify it.
- Build a basic fire or a ‘Fire Pit’.
- Equip the pot and press the corresponding action button on the fire to begin the process.
- It takes approximately 30 seconds, and in the end, you will have one serving of clean refreshing H2O at your disposal. Repeat this as many times as needed to keep yourself stocked with safe water.
Oh, and look out for the terrifying, pale cannibals that want nothing more than to eat your entrails.
