Play time

Octopath Traveler II, much like its previous game, has many hidden items. Some of the strongest and most powerful weapons in the game can be difficult to obtain. This is why the aspect of talking to every NPC in the game is so encouraged among players. One of the more powerful weapons for a mage is the Sunshadow Staff. While the way to get it is not particularly difficult, it can take time. You’ll be at a pretty high level by the time you can retrieve it as well. So here is how to get the Sunshadow Staff in Octopath Traveler 2.

Where to start to get the Sunshadow Staff

In the town of Gravell in the northern Wildlands there is a boy. The boy has only one item, stylized and spelled “STuFfeD ToY”. You can not steal this item. The item’s description reads eerily: “Won’t you play with me?”

There is a good bit of waiting to do to get this item. You have to wait for nightfall. The boy disappears at night, nowhere to be found in the town. You must have Temenos in your party. You have to go to the cliff outside the village when night comes. Wait for the boy to come to see you there. It takes approximately 2-3 minutes for the boy to arrive.

Once the boy arrives, use Temenos’ Coerce ability on him. This will cause him to turn into a shadowy creature. A fight will ensue after this. You will only get to use Temenos. Be sure to use a much elemental and staff attacks. Lightening and staff attacks are the creature’s most vulnerable weaknesses.

Obtaining the Sunshadow Staff

Once you have defeated the shadow boy, the information you gleaned from him will be about a hidden item. That item is glowing blue behind the nearby tree where you are. Obtain the item and it is, you guessed it, the Sunshadow Staff!

You now have the Sunshadow Staff which is one of the more powerful staffs in the game! The staff has 171 Physical Attack and 335 Elemental Attack. It also raises the potency of light and dark-based attacks.
