How to Get the Red Mask in Sons of the Forest

It's more helpful than you think!

Sons of the Forest is the brutal sequel to The Forest, a survival horror game that’s been pitting players up against cannibals, mutants, and psychotic scientists since 2014. Unbelievably, Sons of the Forest somehow has even more cannibals, mutants, and mayhem than its predecessor, so if you loved fighting for your life in The Forest, then you definitely need to get your hands on its sequel (if you haven’t already).

As many survival horror games are, Sons of the Forest can get brutal. The number of enemies can seemingly triple at the drop of a hat, and sometimes weapons and armor just aren’t good enough. If you want to be left alone and relax in Sons of the Forest, then you need to get the Red Mask. The Red Mask makes the game 10x easier just by wearing it; keep reading to find out how you can get the Red Mask in Sons of the Forest!

How to Get the Red Mask in Sons of the Forest

If you want the ruthless cannibals in Sons of the Forest to leave you alone for more than five minutes at a time, then you need to get your hands on the Red Mask. The Red Mask works similarly to the Red Paint in The Forest (because cannibals just have mad respect for red, I guess); when you have the Red Mask equipped, all nearby cannibals will not attack you.

This effect won’t last forever, sadly, but it is an extremely helpful temporary disguise to equip if you ever need help out of a cannibal-related sticky situation. As long as you’ve got the mask equipped, aren’t acting aggressively, and don’t stick around for too long, then you’ve got nothing to fear (at least, not cannibals)! Here’s how to get a hold of the elusive Red Mask in Sons of the Forest:

  • Locate and travel to one of the 3D printers on the island.
    • If you don’t already have access to one, then the easiest 3D printer to get to would be the one located on the western portion of the island, in between the snowy mountains and the ocean. Travel to this general location and you should see a bright green point of interest on your map, which will mark the printer’s exact location.
    • Make sure that you have at least 150 Printer Resins in your inventory. If you don’t already have any, then don’t worry, you should be able to find plenty of it on the shelves of the 3D printing room.
  • Interact with the printer and scroll through all of the craftable items until you come across the Red Mask.
  • Press and hold “E” to craft the mask.
  • Congratulations! You are now the proud new owner of a Red Mask in Sons of the Forest!

Once you’ve got it crafted, it can be equipped right away. Feel free to test it out on any cannibals you see on your way back to your base!
