How to solve the elevator puzzle in Inside the Backrooms

As you enter the room of eight columns and an elevator at the end, in Inside the Backrooms, you may notice the eight digits painted onto the walls with an indiscernible liquid. These digits directly relate to the four digit code you need to figure out for the elevator.

The four columns on the right have a hashtag on the other side. Those columns determine the order of the numbers. The four columns on the left are the exact numbers that form the code, but in the incorrect order. Upon each playthrough, the numbers will be randomised, so you’ll have to work out the code everytime.

Find the hashtag column with ‘1’ painted on it. The opposite column hosts the first number in your code sequence. Then, find the hashtag column with ‘2’ painted on it. The opposite column hosts the second number in your sequence. Repeat this logic with the next two columns and you’ll have your four digit code.

Finally, simply go to the elevator and press the floor buttons of each digit. The elevator will ding when you have it right, and you’ll make your way to the dark rooms.
