How do you Customize your Rotom Phone in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

Give your little friend a fresh look.

I find it a little hard to believe that there are enough Rotoms in the Pokemon World to provide a Rotom Phone to everyone who wants one. I dunno, maybe Rotoms join voluntarily because they just really like being in phones. Well, if your phone has to have a Rotom in it, you should at least do it a favor and make it look spiffy. Here’s how to get special Rotom Phone cases in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

How to Get Special Rotom Phone Cases in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

At the beginning of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, your mom gives you a brand new Rotom Phone to track your map, PokeDex, and all that jazz. However, it only comes in the standard orange coloration, which is a little boring. Luckily, if you’re a faithful fan of all things Pokemon, you’ll get the option to change your Rotom Phone’s case to something a little flashier.

If you have save data from previous Pokemon games stored on your Nintendo Switch’s internal memory or memory card, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will reward you with special cases for your Rotom Phone themed after those games. The games that provide special Rotom Phone cases are:

  • Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
  • Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl
  • Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield
  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus

How to Receive Phone Cases

To actually receive the Rotom Phone cases, you’ll need to progress about two hours into the game’s main campaign, right up until you reach the entrance to Mesagoza on your way to the Academy. On the stairs leading up to the city’s central plaza, you should see a lady in sunglasses standing next to a lamppost with an orange text bubble over her head. If you chat with her, she’ll read your Switch’s memory, and bestow a special Rotom Phone case for every Pokemon game she finds save data for.

You can switch out your Rotom Phone case at any time by opening the character customization menu. While out and about, just press left on the D-Pad to open the menu, then scroll all the way to the Rotom Phone icon on the far right. You’ll see a list of available cases, which can switch out as your mood dictates just as you’d change your clothes.

Remember, that Rotom is doing you a favor by sitting around in your phone all day. Be good to it, lest you give it a reason to leak your embarrassing pictures.
