Souls of Night is a material found in Terraria used to craft. Getting these souls unlocks much more crafting potential. However, getting these Souls of Night can be tough, especially if players go in blind. In truth getting Soul of Night is a quick affair, once players know what to do. With a bit of luck and time, players will get all the required Soul of Night for their crafting needs
Getting Started
First things first, in order to even have Soul of Night spawn in the world, players must be at the Hardcore world level. So new players need not worry about this for now. After the Wall of Flesh is defeated, Hardcore mode is instantly activated, unlocking more challenges. Then your hunt for Soul of Night can begin.
Hunting for Souls
One note to address is that unlike other souls, Souls of Night aren’t exclusive to boss drops. Instead, they’re most commonly found by defeating enemies. There’s more to it than that however, not every enemy can drop Souls of Night. Only in the Cavern layer, specifically at the Underground Corruption/Underground Crimson, depending on the players choice, can Souls of Night be found. Once you’re there, it’s as simple as defeating every monster in sight. Numbers wise, there is a twenty percent chance a Soul of Night will drop. Meaning one in every five enemies will drop the resource. There is a way to bump up the percentage to thirty six percent, but that requires the player to be at Expert difficulty.
Alternatively, if players find a Hematic crate or a Defiled crate, there is a very good chance of finding Souls of Night. Fifty percent isn’t a bad number, though only up to five souls can be found per chest. While helpful, players shouldn’t rely on chest hunting as the main source of getting Souls of Night.
Crafting
When it comes to crafting, Souls of Night is mostly used for the more magical items in the game. If players are focusing on magic, this is a great resource to be on the hunt for. Of particular instance is the Golden Shower spell, which requires Soul of Night to craft. Cursed Flames and the Magical Harp can also be created with this material. Even for those not focused on magic, The Onyx Blaster is a great weapon that is effective on both mobs and bosses.
