How to get Smog in Borderlands 3

  • Item: Smog
  • Boss: Scourge the Invincible
  • Location: Guardian Takedown

For those of you not familiar with the new Borderlands 3 event, Guardian Takedown unlocks after completing the main story. After playing through the game, you can head over to Tannis’ Lab to grab the side mission. Scourge the Invincible is the final boss, so it does take a while to get over to him, and that can make farming this weapon annoying.

The Smog is a Hyperion submachine-gun with considerably high base damage. Accuracy, handling, and reload time are all moderate for this weapon. The magazine size is 25, and the reload time is relatively slow to compensate for the high damage output.

On Action Skill End, the next two magazines will have 100% additional bonus incendiary damage. The special effect of this gun is: Damage is amplified while Weapon Shield is Active and at Max Capacity. Smog can drop in any of the elemental forms, including non-elemental.

Using ADS on this weapon effectively doubles the damage. You can take whatever base damage your item rolled and double it to determine your actual DPS. Keep in mind this bonus is only active when the Weapon Shield is full. If you take any damage, the special weapon effect will go away for a short time. The weapon shield recharges over about ten seconds, which will re-enable the damage increase.

You can easily use this gun on Mayhem 10 to kill mobs and bosses alike. The weapon will inevitably take damage a lot, causing the damage amplifier to fall off, but it is still strong even without the special effect.
