In Slime Rancher, you get the privilege to walk around the Far, Far Range and experience everything the continent has to offer. From gorgeous greenery to blistering deserts to ancient temples, the Far, Far Range has some incredible sights. Not to mention the incredibly diverse slimes that inhabit the different regions that you can herd for their exotic plorts. But to explore these lands, you’re going to need slime keys to unlock the slime gates. How do you get the slime keys in Slime Rancher, and what are they?
What Are the Slime Keys?
The slime keys are your ticket around the place, as they unlock the great slime gates. The slime gates prevent access between biomes, meaning you’ll have to search around and unlock them.
There are 11 keys to find, for 11 slime gates. Not all slime gates lead to a new biome, but act as shortcuts, or as entrances to vaults (after reaching the end of the game).
You will keep collecting slime keys until you use them, and you cannot cash them in, even if you do not wish to use them all.
How to Get a Slime Key
Slime keys are hidden in, funnily enough, slime. And I don’t mean slime piles, and I don’t really mean hidden. You saw those giant slimes yet, the gordos? Those huge slimes are all hiding secrets, secrets that you’re going to have to force out of them.
Gorgos are large slimes that will sit, quite happily, and wait for food. Gorgo slimes come in the variations of the regular slimes that you’ll come across in your adventures, and they’ll share the same diet and favourite foods.
To retract the rewards, you’re gonna have to feed ’em till they pop. But don’t worry, they actually enjoy it, at least that’s what the Slimepedia says. The first one you’ll probably come across is a giant pink slime, which will thankfully eat anything, so load up your vacpac and shoot food directly into the gordo’s mouth.
They’ll start shaking when they’re close to exploding, and will pop into many slimes, crates, and will reveal their secret, which will be either a teleporter or a slime key. It will take typically 50 food items to feed them, their favorite food counting as two. The pink slime only requires 30 pieces of food.
Walk up to the slime key to grab it.
