How To Get Shadow Scales in Terraria

There’s only one way to obtain this special crafting item

However, of all the crafting materials in Terraria, arguably the rarest and most valuable are Shadow Scales. So, this guide will explain everything you need to know about how to get Shadow Scales in Terraria.

How To Get Shadow Scales in Terraria

Shadow Scales are special crafting items that are dropped by the Eater of Worlds. Which is a pre-Hardmode worm boss found only in the Corruption worlds. Unfortunately, the only way to get Shadow Scales in Terraria is by defeating this giant worm boss. Which, for those who don’t know, can be a rather daunting task.

The Eater of Worlds is not a single target, but rather a string of individual life forms. Meaning that once any inner body segment gets destroyed, it then splits into a number of smaller worms. Plus, the Eater of Worlds (like all worms in Terraria) is completely immune to lava.

That being said, if you are able to summon the Eater of Worlds and subsequently defeat it, the rewards are endless. Individual segments of Shadow Scales and Demonite Ore drop once the worm boss is defeated, as well as en even larger bonus drop upon taking out the entire entity.

Not only that, but defeating the Eater of Worlds also allows the TavernkeepNPC to spawn, meteorites to land and the ability for players to craft a Nightmare Pickaxe. Which is one of the most highly sought after items in the game.
