How to Get EXP Share in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Share the love.

Y’know, back in my day, when you wanted to level up every member of your Pokemon team, you had to send them each out to fight individually. Right pain, it was, but it did give things a bit of a personal touch. Nowadays, though, it’s much more straightforward thanks to the EXP Share feature of modern Pokemon games. Here’s how to get EXP Share in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

How to Get EXP Share in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

EXP Share is a feature that, well, shares EXP. Specifically, whenever a member of your Pokemon team wins a battle against a Wild Pokemon or Trainer Pokemon, every member of your party receives EXP rather than just the Pokemon who landed the finishing blow. Any Pokemon who appear in the fight will receive more EXP than the other Pokemon, however, who only receive a small sum. Don’t worry, the amount of EXP the lead Pokemon receives is not affected by the number of Pokemon in the party, though higher-level Pokemon will receive less EXP from EXP Share when battling lower-level Pokemon.

So how do you actually get EXP Share in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? Well, good news: you don’t have to! EXP Share is a base game feature, active from the very beginning of the story. It’s not reliant on a held item or anything, either; all of your Pokemon will just naturally get EXP after every fight.

Can you Disable EXP Share?

Unfortunately, the only downside to this is that you can’t disable EXP Share. It’s not like you’d need to, as the Pokemon who lands the finishing blow would get the same amount of EXP either way, but some players do like to take a more active role in their Pokemon’s rearing. If it bothers you, you could just keep the Pokemon you want to train in your party by itself, but there’s not really any reason to do that.

With EXP Share, your Pokemon team will be kept at approximately the same level, which will hopefully save you some time on grinding.
