A unique feature and an absolute game changer

Ever wondered what it would be like to play a Souls-like with guns? Well, Remnant 2 provides an experience to be remembered for many years to come in this dystopian universe where powerful bosses roam around every corner. But in this challenging adventure, players have the option to attempt to defeat this game with their friends in its co-op. With a randomized boss arena-style game and an entire new setting for players to explore to their heart’s content, everything appears beautiful, layered but with a price of you and your friends lives. When picking your Archetype or Class in Remnant 2, you may find that your initial pick does not suit your playstyle or requires a change based on who you are playing with. For whatever the reason, this is Vincent’s guide on how to change Archetype with Engrams in Remnant 2.

How to Change Archetype in Remnant 2

Being the third-person shooter equivalent of Dark Souls means that players can expect a tough grind to the top, where many bosses eagerly await your arrival. With 4 Archetypes to choose from at the beginner of the game – Medic, Hunter, Challenger, Handler, and Gunslinger, players are not only spoilt for choice in character appearance and skills but also at the knowledge that there are more Archetypes to unlock. But what does that mean for the Class you initially picked after the tutorial? Well, as you may have seen that there is a Gunslinger Archetype only available with a Remnant 2 pre-order, players will also get the chance to unlock other Classes further down the line. This means that these Archetypes can directly be used in your current playthrough, however there are a few steps in order to unlock this second Archetype.

Unlike other souls-like games, if players are unhappy with either their Build or Class and wish to change, the only option was to restart the entire playthrough. Remnant is aware of this and instead offers a solution in the midst of your adventure to switch out your main Archetype for another. If you want to have another Archetype, players need to get to Ward 13 which acts as a Safe Zone with multiple Vendors available to sell you some goodies. But in this Ward, players can barter with various Vendors who correspond to specific Classes/Archetypes that you can switch to. These cost x1500 Scrap, therefore you will want to have an idea on which Archetype you want to use alongside your current Class before you make any purchases.

What Item do you Need for Specific Archetypes?

  • Hunter Archetype – Rusty Medal (sold by Brabus)
  • Medic Archetype – Medic Pin (sold by Dr. Norah)
  • Challenger Archetype – Old Metal Tool (sold by Reggie)
  • Handler Archetype – Old Whistle (sold by Mudtooth)

How to Get Engrams in Remnant 2

Engrams are the main component needed for rocking multiple Archetypes at once. As the items you need to purchase at Ward 13 are bought through Scrap Materials, the actual shift to a new Archetype in the middle of your playthrough can only be done with Engrams. But where do you find them? You can stay inside Ward 13 as you need to head to the Dock area and climb the staircase leading to a Crane Container where Wallace can be found. You will need to visit Wallace to confirm your second Archetype choice as the Material you bought via the corresponding Vendor will be needed here to transform the Archetype item into an Engram. You are required to own the Archetype item, x10 Lumenite Crystals and x1000 Scrap in order to purchase the Engram in Remnant 2 and meld your current and new Archetype Classes together.

When you get your second Archetype, go into your Archetype Character Menu and hover over the Prime Archetype icon in the top-left corner of your Character’s Image. You can select the new Class to become your primary in which the Prime Perk will swap over but your appearance of your original Archetype will stay the same. Regardless on whether you or not you switch your secondary to your primary, the secondary Archetype will run at the same time with your primary, giving you a total of 8 Perks to use throughout the game. You can of course, get another Archetype to switch out with your secondary and test various Builds within a single playthrough.
