The thing you have to remember about fishing is that, unlike hunting land-based animals, fish can move in three dimensions. Sometimes, you can’t just poke at the surface and expect to get a bite; you need to go a little deeper, and to do that, you need the right lure. Here’s how to get a Sinker lure in Sports Story.
How to Get a Sinker Lure in Sports Story
After you get your first fishing rod from the pro shop in Pelican Waters, you’ll be directed to speak to a series of coated fishermen around the area to learn how to fish. For the first few of these teachers, your default Bobber lure is fine, but when the blue-coated guy wants to teach you to catch Boglets, he’ll inform you that a Bobber won’t cut it. You need to get your hands on a Sinker lure to catch the mud-dwelling critters.

In order to get a Sinker lure, you’re going to have to embark on a brief trading sidequest. The first step of this procedure is going all the way to the bottom-right point of Pelican Waters, where you’ll see a guy with a line out on a dock. He’ll call out for your assistance, so stand behind him, hold down the A button, and move left on the left stick to pull him back. When he reaches his max point, he’ll get dragged into the water, launching a Yellowtail behind him for you to take. Don’t worry, he’s fine. Probably.
Trading for the Sinker Lure
Once you’ve got the Yellowtail, return to the train station where you first arrived at Pelican Waters and talk to the guy in the sushi truck. He needs some Yellowtail to prep for the upcoming tournament, and will happily take the one you have off your hands, giving you a Tuna in exchange. Next, go south a short ways until you come upon a big stand with a green tarp over it. The guy behind the counter offers to can up any fish you provide, so hand over the Tuna, and he’ll turn it into some Canned Tuna for you.
Finally, head southwest from the stand to the dock where the red-coated guy taught you to catch salmon. On that same dock is a guy in a brown outfit who hasn’t had lunch yet today. Offer him your Canned Tuna, and as thanks, he’ll give you the Sinker lure. Remember to equip the Sinker in your pause menu before you try to fish up any Boglets!
