How to Get Wooper in Scarlet and Violet

The Paldean Wooper can be found in Scarlet and Violet as the exclusive regional form of this Pokémon. However, with this new addition comes the change of its Pokémon-Type. The Paldean form Wooper is now a Poison/Ground-Type. Removing its Water Typing. For players looking to nab themselves a regular Wooper however, you can find this in the game. These are the steps to obtaining a regular Wooper in Scarlet and Violet.

  • First, obtain a Paldean Wooper. You can find this Pokémon in South Province (Area One).
  • After catching this Pokémon, head to Cascarrafa. This City is located on the Western side of Paldea, bordering Asado Desert.
  • At the central fountain of Cascarrafa there is a woman in a white blouse and blue shorts. Interact with the NPC to begin the trade from a Paldean Wooper to a regular Wooper.

How to Evolve Wooper into Quagsire

Unlike the Paldean Wooper which evolves into Clodsire at Level 20, the regular version can evolve into Quagsire. This is the evolution chain that we are all aware of and with it comes the usual levelling-up process to evolve. All players need to do to evolve Wooper into Quagsire is level up the Pokémon through either manual or automatic battling or using EXP Candies. Wooper will evolve at Level 20. So if you get to Cascarrafa and pick up the regular Wooper early on in the game, you could find yourself a shiny Wooper/Quagsire relatively quickly compared to other Water-Type Pokémon.

How to Get a Shiny Wooper/Quagsire

Upon receiving the regular Wooper, you should breed this Pokémon first to obtain more of the same Pokémon before you evolve into Quagsire. To breed, players must use the new Picnic function. What you need to do here is have the two Pokémon you wish to breed with, out during the Picnic. The perfect Breeding Pokémon to use is Ditto. Alternatively you need to find a Pokémon of the opposite sex within the same Egg Group.

Once you have multiple Wooper in your Pokémon Boxes, you can now begin the breeding process of using the Masuda method. The Masuda method is when you breed two Pokémon that are from different Countries who speak different languages. This breeding method will increase your Pokémon chances from 1/4096 to 1/683. We recommend for players to locate Ditto in the West Province (Area Two) and Porto Marinada Lighthouse. Use the ZL Button on the Switch controller to get a close up shot of the wild Paldean Pokémon in the area as Ditto can be camouflaged as other Pokémon in the area. When you find Ditto, obtain the Pokémon to use specifically in breeding.

Use the Poke Portal Link Trade Code of 44484448 to trade Ditto across different regions in order to get different versions of this Pokémon. Once you obtain a Ditto obtained from a Scarlet or Violet version with a different language, you can begin the Masuda method. We also recommend that you make specific Egg boosting Sandwich Recipes to increase your chances further of picking up a Shiny Wooper at the Picnic Baskets.

Sandwich Recipes with Egg Power Level 2

  • Ultra Peanut Butter Sandwich – Banana, Peanut Butter, Butter & Jam
  • Great Peanut Butter Sandwich – Banana, Peanut Butter & Butter
  • Ultra Pickle Sandwich – Pickle, Watercress, Basil & Oil
  • Great Marmalade Sandwich – Cheese, Marmalade & Butter
  • Ultra Marmalade Sandwich – Cheese, Marmalade, Butter & Cream Cheese
  • Great Sweet Sandwich – Banana, Apple, Cheese, Basil, Whipped Cream, Butter & Salt

With your Egg Boosting Sandwich ready to go, you will have 30 minutes to collect all Eggs from the Picnic Basket should they spawn in. Make sure that in your active party that you have the regular Wooper or Quagsire with the Ditto as your only Pokémon in the party. Start the Picnic and regularly check the Picnic Basket for any Eggs. A total of 10 Eggs can be produced at one time so make sure you keep checking so that if it becomes full, you can take all Eggs out of the Basket to continue the breeding.

With all your Eggs in your active party, make sure that your main Pokémon is a Pokémon with the ability of ‘Flame Body‘. This will increase the time it takes for your Eggs to spawn. Repeat this process until you get a Shiny Wooper and Quagsire (from your evolved Wooper in your Pokémon Boxes).
