How to Get a Shiny Starter Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Nothing like a Shiny to start your journey

We all know the thrill and excitement of finding and catching a Shiny Pokemon. These super rare and uniquely off-color Pokemon variants have been a stable since the games began. Many obsessive or competitive players have learned a few tricks over the years on how to obtain as many shiny Pokemon in a game as possible. One of the most popular examples is obtaining Shiny starter Pokemon. Usually, for this, you just start the game over and over until you get your shiny. Tedious to be sure but still a very popular trend. It seems this desire will be no different for Scarlet and Violet once they release. Here’s how to get a Shiny Starter Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet.

Can you get a Shiny Starter?

Sadly it has already been confirmed the starters in Scarlet and Violet are ‘shiny locked’. This means no matter what you do, you can not get a shiny for your starter. Discouraging to be sure, but wait, there’s hope!

While your original starter can not become a shiny, there is a new feature in Scarlet and Violet that will make obtaining one possibly easier and faster once you unlock it. The new and improved camping feature, which you can unlock very early, will allow you to breed for eggs quite easily!

That’s right, when you camp you can breed your pokemon! Many players see this as a farming opportunity for many shinies. For collectors and breeder players, this is going to be an egg-cellent feature for getting exactly the shinies you want. This feature can be not just for your favorite new starter!

So happy shiny hunting and good luck obtaining your new shiny variant of Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and/or Quaxly.
