The time has come for fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, as the highly anticipated Sonic Frontiers is finally here! Offering players an open-world Elden Ring sort of gameplay this time around, players will have a lot of exploring to do.
And while this open world may look a bit barren, there are actually some fun things to do in your spare time. One of which is the chance to go fishing. If you’re interested in how to fish in Sonic Frontiers, then we’re happy to explain so you can do it too!
How to Fish in Sonic Frontiers
When it comes to going fishing in Sonic Frontiers, there are actually going to be a few things you’ll need to obtain in order to do so. More specifically, you’ll always want to uncover the fishing location for each island so that you can actually fish, and you’ll want to actively collect Purple Coins.
When finding the proper fishing hole for your island, the entrance to it actually looks closer to that of Zone Portals. Big the Cat helps you out on these fishing excursions and supplies the fishing pole so that it’s one less thing you have to worry about bringing.
What Are Purple Fishing Coins in Sonic Frontiers?
Oddly enough, the reason you need to harbor Purple Coins is that they are used as the type of payment to actually catch the fish. So the more you can keep in your wallet, the more fishing you can actually do, whenever you want.

When it comes to the actual act of fishing, just pay to fish and you’ll be able to cast your line out. After some time, you’ll finally feel something on your line. Try reel it in and a quick-time event will be triggered. Your goal at this point is to hit the action button when the white circle is directly inside the red one. Fishing will earn you tokens for your catch, with the rarity of the fish alongside its size affecting your payout.
