How to Fish in Harvestella

Angling to be an angler.

If there were a singular vital component in any life simulator game, it’d be a good fishing minigame. It’s the ultimate form of daily life relaxation: waiting around doing nothing until seafood happens. As you’d expect, Harvestella features a fishing minigame of its own, though you’ll need to work a bit to unlock it. Here’s how to fish in Harvestella.

How to Fish in Harvestella

In Harvestella, you have the ability to fish at certain designated spots, both in towns and in wild areas. It’s a pretty chill process; just cast your line, wait a while, and if you’re lucky, you’ll catch a fish, which you can either use in cooking or sell to make some quick Grilla. However, the fishing minigame is not available at the start of the game. You’ll need to jump through one fairly simple, if not mildly large, hoop first.

In order to fish, you need to visit the Lethe General Store and purchase the book Fishing Knowledge for 800 Grilla. Once you read this book, you’ll know how to fish. That said, 800 is a bit steep if you’re just starting out, so you’ll need to either make a concentrated effort toward saving up your Grilla for a little while or just come back to it later in the game.

Once you’ve bought and read Fishing Knowledge, you’re officially ready to fish. You don’t need to buy a rod or anything, as your character will just pull one out of thin air when the time comes.

You can only fish at designated Fishing Spots, denoted on your map by a white square with a fish silhouette. Stand at one of these spots and interact with the prompt to pull out your rod. Press the A button to cast your line into the water, and get ready to play the waiting game. There isn’t any way to influence if and when a fish will take the line, you just need to leave the bobber in the water until it happens on its own. This can potentially take a while, so get comfortable.

When a fish bites, you’ll see a big splash of water around your bobber, accompanied by a rumble of your controller. Press the A button again right as this happens to reel in the line with fish in tow. You’ll get a nifty little description screen for the fish you caught, plus its size for your records. Any fish you catch will be added to your inventory to do whatever you like with it.

While fishing isn’t as vital in Harvestella as it is in other games, it’s still a fun way to pass the time and potentially turn a profit. Put on some music and kick up your feet while you wait.
