How to Find a Tera Raid Battle

Finding Tera Raid Battles is a lot easier than beating them, so be sure to have some strong Pokémon on your team before you go looking for some. Tera Raid Battles are similar to the Max Raid Battles from Pokémon Sword and Shield; you have to locate and interact with small, specific structures that are secretly housing extremely powerful Pokémon. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, these structures are called Crystals.

These Crystals are large, glittery crystalline structures that are very hard to miss if you’re looking for them. The color of the Crystal is determined by the Tera type of the Pokémon inside. All you need to do to find one is simply go out looking, they’re definitely not scarce and are scattered throughout the Paldea region.

Once you’ve found a Crystal and are ready to battle, simply walk up to the Crystal and interact with it. Interacting with the Crystal should bring up a menu (similar to the menu in Pokémon Sword and Shield at the start of Max Raid Battles) that allows you to take a peek at the difficulty level of the battle, your battle options, and a silhouette of the Tera Pokémon.

You can challenge these Tera Raid Battles solo or with a group, but it’s definitely recommended that you bring at least one other person with you; these battles are no joke! You definitely shouldn’t underestimate a Tera Raid Battle, Tera Pokémon are a lot tougher than they look.

Once it’s been defeated, you can choose to let the Tera Pokémon go or you can choose to catch it. Catching the Tera Pokémon in Tera Raid Battles is always recommended, since you can get Pokémon with extremely rare Tera types from these types of battles.
