Since the Gengar line is from the first generation of Pokémon, its evolutionary procedure isn’t especially complicated. Gastly initially evolves into Haunter when it reaches level 25. In order to evolve Haunter into Gengar, though, you’ll need to trade it with another player. Hopefully you know at least one other person with a copy of Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl.

- Visit the Local or Global online room either from a Pokémon Center or the overworld
- Interact with another player to initiate a trade and offer up your Haunter
- Once the trade completes, Haunter will immediately evolve into Gengar
Assuming you have a friend with the game, or at least an acquaintance you trust won’t steal your Pokémon, setting up this process is simple. Just visit the online Local or Global rooms, depending on your proximity to one another, setting up a private room with a link code to keep things simple.
When both of you are in the room, get a trade started and offer up your Haunter. Your trade partner can offer anything they want, it doesn’t affect what you’re trying to do. When you both make your offers, commence the trade. When the trade finishes, Haunter will immediately evolve into Gengar, after which you can trade back and enjoy your little curse machine.
