Players chances can be increased by obtaining a Shiny Charm, given to the player after achieving 100% on the Paldea Pokédex. However, this is another task in itself and for players just starting, we have another option for finding Shiny Pokémon easily in Scarlet and Violet.

Step One: Obtain False Swipe TM

Players can first obtain a False Swipe TM by meeting the requirements of a challenge set by the Biology Teacher. The challenge is to catch 30 species of Pokémon. Once achieved, the Teacher will give you the False Swipe as a reward. Alternatively, False Swipe can be crafted using 400 League Points, 3 Kricketot Shells and 3 Chewtle Claws. Once you have obtained this TM, False Swipe, give this to one of your Pokémon in your party. The purpose of this TM is that it stops a Pokémon that you are trying to catch from fainting. The HP remains on 1 and it cannot be knocked, given you more than enough chances to catch with a Pokéball.

However, keep in mind that False Swipe does not work on Ghost-Type Pokémon so when trying to catch a Shiny Ghost-Type, this TM will not work. In this case, players must be ultra-cautious when trying to catch the Shiny Pokémon.

Step Two: Find a Mass Outbreak

Head into the Paldea map and look for a Mass Outbreak symbol, this is marked with a question mark on the map. Battle every Pokémon in this area, this will increase the chances of seeing a Shiny Pokémon in the Outbreak area. Take out a minimum of 60 Pokémon in this area to increase the chance of getting a Shiny Pokémon to 1 in 1,365. You can knock out more Pokémon if you please to increase your chances even further. Important note: players should be knocking out 60 of the same Pokémon species for Step Two of this process.

Step Three: Picnic Reset

After knocking out around 60 Pokémon in the Outbreak, save your Game Progress. Stay inside the Outbreak and set up a Picnic. You can start a Picnic by bringing up the Main Menu and selecting the Picnic option, third one down. With the Picnic placed and your Pokémon appearing in front of you, the Pokémon of the Outbreak will vanish. Close the Picnic segment, seeing a pop-up: ‘are you done picnicking?’, select Yes. When the Picnic closes a new set of Pokémon will spawn into the Outbreak.

Players should repeat this process of Picnic Resetting to reset the Outbreak spawns. This will take many tries so, be patient! The result will not happen immediately. If the Outbreak was to end during your process, simply load your last saved game, this should have been just before placing your first Picnic down.

Keep a look out for the Shiny Pokémon as there is no sound effect indicating its appearance. Some Shiny Pokémon are harder to locate than others due to its muted colours which blend in with the standard Pokémon appearance. Because of this, make sure you are properly checking the surrounding area inside the Outbreak before you Picnic reset again.

Those are our tips to getting a Shiny Pokémon easily in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Whilst the process is not always quick, it is a rewarding experience when you find that Shiny Pokémon. Make sure you do not waste it when you find them!
