In Cult of the Lamb, there are four Bishops who stand in the way of The One Who Waits. Between Leshy, Heket, Kallamar, and Shamura, these false prophets will do everything they can to prevent your malicious benefactor from being freed. So, it’s up to you to systematically take them and their minions down.
In the forests of Darkwood, where Leshy reigns supreme, you’ll face three mini bosses before you encounter the Bishop. These mini bosses are usually larger versions of mob enemies you face in the Lands of the Old Faith. But, they can also be converted to your cult upon their defeat, so they’re worth fighting. Here’s what you can expect from the battle against the youngest Bishop, Leshy.
How to Beat Leshy
Leshy isn’t a terribly difficult first boss, as long as you stay focused. There’s a lot going on on-screen, and it can be easy to get overwhelmed and not know what to do. It’s important to remember that, at the end of the day, Cult of the Lamb is a roguelike. If you’re not comfortable with the dodge roll mechanic, you will be by the end of this encounter. It’s crucial to dodge not only Leshy’s attacks, but their minions, as well.
Starting this battle, Leshy will waste no time in summoning mobs. It may seem counter-productive to you, but I highly recommend ignoring as many of these as you can in favor of attacking Leshy. If you choose to adopt this playstyle, there will be a multitude of enemies on-screen, but as long as you’re focused on the main target, and as long as you’re constantly dodge-rolling, it’ll be a cakewalk.
Leshy’s main method of transportation is burrowing under the ground and moving from point to point. If you see them do this, make sure you’re not anywhere near them when they pop back up. Being too close can result in unnecessary damage, and hearts are a valuable commodity in Cult of the Lamb.
Leshy’s primary attack is highly avoidable. They shoot upwards of 10 acid projectiles in your direction, but as there are targets on the ground, you can easily dodge them. Their secondary attack is also easy to avoid, and what’s more, it’s limited in range. Leshy will slam their head to the left and right, and as long as you’re not directly beside them, it’ll miss.
Their tertiary attack is a little more difficult to dodge, but it’s not impossible. In this attack, Leshy will send a shockwave of dirt and spikes from their location to the edge of the arena. To avoid taking damage, stay on the outer edge of the arena and dodge roll as the attack wears off. It helps that they don’t seem to use this move until their health is low, so you may only have to deal with it once or twice before Leshy’s down.
If you survive the waves of enemies and Leshy’s fearsome attacks, you’ll be handsomely rewarded. Receive your prize, and relish in the sweet sound of victory. But not for long — there are still three Bishops to slay.
