Dwarf Fortress is the game of tales, stories and legends. As your fortress develops, many stories will be attached to many items, or simply a dwarf may craft something legendary. In either case, it would be a shame not to display the tales that relate to your fortress. If you want to do so, then you’ll need a display case. Here is how to make a display case in Dwarf Fortress.
Creating glass in Dwarf Fortress
Like everything in Dwarf Fortress, making a display case is quite the process. Firstly, make sure you have access to sand. As without sand, you can’t make the glass. Sand will typically be found underground as a layer somewhat near the surface. You may need to do some digging to uncover it.
Once you have located the sand, you will need to assign it as a sand zone, to let your dwarves know to collect sand from that area. You will also need empty sacks to put the sand in. Once all that is done, you’ll need a Glass Furnace.
Found in the ‘furnaces’ section of the building menu, Glass Furnaces allow you to make things with glass. ‘Collect sand’ is an action that you can order from the Glass Furnace. Make sure your dwarves collect the sand. If everything is in place then you shouldn’t have any problems.
With the sand, order the creation of a clear glass window. An available dwarf should run to the task.

How to make a display case in Dwarf Fortress
With your window created, go into your Carpenter’s Workshop and issue the creation of a display case. An available dwarf should construct it. Once it is constructed, you can go into the furniture tab of the build menu and place down your display case anywhere you see fit.
A display case with an item in entertains passing guests and increases the value of the room it is in, so place them wisely!
